Two souls, a sister and a brother in the faith of Jesus, sister Nidia Esther Jimenez Diaz and brother Hugo Alberto Chavez Hernandez, were baptized this month en Colombia, South America, Pastor Samuel Becerra López, President of the Caribbean District 2 of the Northern Field of the Colombian Union and Director of the Evangelism Department at the Northern Field at the IMS, who performed the baptisms, confirmed. Sister Nidia Esther Jimenez Diaz was baptized in Puerto Rico Bolívar, Colombia, on May 7, 2025, while brother Hugo Alberto Chavez Hernandez was baptized in San Mateo Bolívar, Colombia, on May 10, 2025, Pastor Samuel Becerra López added.
Puerto Rico Bolívar is a town and municipality in Caquetá Dapartment, while San Mateo Bolívar is a town and municipality in the Northern Boyacá Province, part of the Colombian department of Boyacá. In Colombia, the Spanish first landed in La Guajira in 1499, and by the mid-16th century, they had conquered much of present-day country, and established the New Kingdom of Granada with Santa Fe de Bogotá as capital city. Colombia’s independence from the Spanish Empire was declared in 1810.
