A day of fasting was announced worldwide for all the divisions, unions and fields at IMS, a circular letter of July 2, 2020, written by Pastor Tzvetan Petkov, President of the General Conference at the IMS, revealed. The day of fasting will be on July 18, 2020. The motivation for the event is based on Joel 2:15 and Matthew 17:21 - “Blow the trumpet in Zion, sanctify a fast, call a solemn assembly …” ; “Howbeit this kind goeth not out but by prayer and fasting.” According to the circular letter, the day of fasting will be first of all an expression of church’s thanksgiving to the Lord for the protection and all the blessings granted.

In addition, the word of the Lord explains the true meaning of fasting in Isaiah 58:6-7, 9-10 - “Is not this the fast that I have chosen: to loose the bands of wickedness, to undo the heavy burdens, and to let the oppressed go free, and that ye break every yoke? Is it not to deal thy bread to the hungry, and that thou bring the poor that are cast out to thy house?—when thou seest the naked, that thou cover him, and that thou hide not thyself from thine own flesh?… If thou take away from the midst of thee the yoke, the putting forth of the finger and speaking vanity, and if thou draw out thy soul to the hungry and satisfy the afflicted soul, then shall thy light rise in obscurity and thy darkness be as the noonday.”
