A wonderful Christian lesson on the God’s fourth commandment under the title “The Sabbath Commandment – Has It Been Changed?” was presented by Pastor Henry Dering, one of the best missionaries at the IMS, in English (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=37AgGVB_Ny0), Spanish (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zqmwoB2j1No) and German (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WXQ-EpUCC1I) and published via YouTube, the Secretarial Department of the General Conference confirmed yesterday, on August 12, 2025.
In his presentation, Pastor Henry Dering emphasized that the Saturday, the seventh day Sabbath of the Bible (Exodus 20:10), was and is the Lord’s day of rest and sanctification, revealed as an eternal rule just after the creation of the heaven and the earth, according to Genesis 1:1 and 2:2-3, as well as according to Luke 4:16. In addition, the Sabbath was made for the whole human race, because there were no Jews after the creation of the earth, Pastor Dering underlined, and the law of the Ten Commandments was unchangeable, because God wrote it with His own finger, and He changes not, according to Malachi 3:6; Hebrews 13:8 and Psalms 89:34. Furthermore, Pastor Henry Dering mentioned the fact that Paul the apostle, as well as the members of the first apostle church kept the Sabbath and preached on it (Acts 16:13-14) in different cities, such as Thessaloniki, Corinth and Thyatira, and the Sabbath will be kept in the kingdom of God (Isaiah 66:22-23).
In his lesson, Pastor Henry Dering quoted the thought of D.L. Moody as well that the Fourth Commandment started with the instruction ‘Remember’ which meant that it existed yet before its proclamation at Mount Sinai.
Regarding the traditional Sunday keeping, Pastor Henry Dering reminded of the words of Christ in Matthew 15:3,9 about the ‘teaching of commandments of men’ against the will of God. At the end of his lecture, Pastor Henry Dering revealed that the Roman church tried to change the Lord’s day of rest from Saturday to Sunday without any directions from the Bible. Finally, Pastor Henry Dering reminded the words of the Lord in John 14:15, confirming that the noble duty of the faithful Christian was and is to keep the Sabbath as a labor of love.
