Leptokarya, a town in Pieria regional unit, Central Macedonia, Greece, known as former seat of East Olympus municipality, which is part of the municipality of Dion Olympus, has a population of 3,612 inhabitants as of 2021 and is a popular tourist destination during the summer months due to its beaches, as well as due to its proximity to Mount Olympus and Pieria’s capital city Katerini. In addition, Leptokarya is located near the ancient Macedonian city of Leivithra, considered as the mythological home of the Thracian bard Orpheus, where archaeologists have discovered tombs from the late Bronze Age (c. 1700–1200 before Christ) containing rich burial objects.
